alright folks, i've been on here a year it's about time i put some piccys on for people to laugh at.
You see the borderline 'pro' conversions of many on here and am sure, like me most people are envious. The gentleman who converted my van (i bought it post conversion i hasten to add) was lacking some of the fabrication skills (& common sense in some parts) of many people on this forum.
If you look here:
http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u9/illzlee/Camper%20Conversion%20Piccys/
you can see a host of close up photos of parts of that amuse me and will, in time be rectified or improved.
piccy 129 shows how the cross memeber has been 'modified' to allow the gear linkage rod to pass by without hindrance.
piccy 127 is a poor view of my tiny scoop, which is better at ploughing campsites than cooling the rad
piccy 131 - i reckon is the starter motor position on my t25 'box - can anyone clarify?
piccy 130 just shows the whole 'gubbins' and my frankly 'spindly' engine mounts
piccy 132 shows a random sensor that has long since been cut, anyone any ideas as to it's purpose? i suspect gbox oil level? oh, and a random oil 'breather' pipe. one of the reasons my drive is like a big- dot-to-dot picture with oil splodges
piccy 129 i like, an ingenious way to craft gear linkage mountings from whatever you have lying around - in this case exhaust clamps. Thus, permanently creating wobbly gears for future owners.
piccys 133 & 134 are the pinnacle of the level of finish, incorporating the modern aluminium look with the retro softwood effect to create what can best be described as a 'hole' to stick the expansion bottle.
I'll be honest, i love my van - but please if you are converting your bus now to diesel, use these pictures as a guide of how not to do it!
slowly but surely i'll be re-doing a lot of these bespoke engineering acheivements |

and ,,,,,,, pic 131 is the stater position ,, what you need in there maybe is a caphead screw ( setscrew ) the bronze bush should be knocked out and a washer fitted ,,,,,,
,, theres not much weight on that bolt ,,,,,, you can put a lot of force on it if like me in the past 30mph forward then dip clutch select reverse floor throttle and let your clutch up ,,,,,, to rip the tyres to bits ,,,,,, i found that the dif doesent like this but no probs with adapter plate and engine mounts the starter hole on ones i do ,,,,,, i make plastic cover say out of tuperware box ???? with just one bolt at the top , easy to see whats behind it ,,,,,
there was no other position suitable for a bolt in this area ,, starter fouls
can't quite make out the spindly engine mount rubbers unless you mean the way that it hangs on the one bolt at the end of the vw cradle ,, when i did mine i made some plates to lower it on the outer mounts ,,,
the mounting plate on the engine near to the oilfiter looks like its the right one for the job 50mm X 50mm X 6mm by 11" long welded to a plate about 7" X 6"
the censor ,,,,,, the switch on gearbox with wires cut are for the reversing lights
engine breather pipe if you dont want it to go to the airfilter then fit it into a bottle ,, could be checked when changing the engine oil service interval ?

yeah, sorry phil i'm not knocking your kit. i think it's a crackin setup
was just highlighting some of the amusing ways other bits (such as the gear linkage support) had been acheived.
i'm looking to tidy up some of the bits i'm not happy with and sort my clutch this summer too.
by the way, anyone know of anywhere i can get hold of some 4/5mm dia braided cable to make up my own kit? bought one of fleabay recently and it's just too thin.. |
