Hi, because my 1972 vw crewcab has a huge void between the fuel tank and engine bay i considered whether it is a better option for me to cut a hole in the rear floor to mount the radiator into, as opposed to the usual scoop between the chassis rails? My thinking is that any air pushed through the rad won't be able to finds it way back round and will simply dissipate through the side vents. My bus is very low, the stock scooby sump is just a couple of inches off the floor and i'm worried that having a scoop hang below the chassis, even by an inch or so i'll end up having everything ripped off first time I hit a pothole. I'll still mount a scoop to force air through but this won't pass below the chassis rail. Do others think this is a good or stupid idea as I really don't have a clue about the science and mechanics of airflow. thanks Happy

Sweet ride!!!

On a serious note, people have put a large scoop behind the radiator ducting the air to a slanted radiator, it enters the front and exits the rear. All between the chassis rails. It's a proven design. No point trying to reinvent it. Also no point in have a large hanging duct then.

Radiators need positive pressured ram air to work ie an air scoop leading to a radiator sealed around all edges. It's that simple. Although in saying that mines not completely sealed and it works fine.... But worked even better when I sealed it Laugh Out Loud
