i have ongoing problems with my karmann ghia - ej20 n/a conversion
i have a factory immobiliser - siemens - MY96 - MY99 used a fixed code system
i have moved the transponder chip out of the key and taped it to the antenna - placed it under the rear shelf of the car, as the ignition key is now at the front of the car
according to the rjes website i now find out the transponder chip should not be near any ferrous metal - that's exactly where the antenna/transponder chip is
presumably this would interfere with the starting of the engine as its magnetic?
i have the black/red wire from the fuel pump relay - which is the feed to the fuel pump power switching from earth to 12 volts and then back to earth while trying to start the car -
is this the problem caused by above transponder chip being in close proximity to ferrous metal ( i.e the steel ) of the metal under the parcel shelf where the antenna and transponder chip rest on?
any ideas / comments / suggestions - other than buying a new loom? |

I would be supprised it the parcel shelf is causing problems as the antenna is on a ferrous steering colum in the subaru.
Does the engine start and fire then stop? If so the transponder chip is probably in the wrong possition, the best thing to do is put it in some pipe lagging/rag etc that fits in the antenna ring and turn it round until the engine runs and then tape it up well in that possition. mine was a pig to get set initially but once in the correct orientation was fine all the time.
Have you fault code read yet. Check your fuel pump is adequete too as this will cause a similar run stop situation. |
