Hi guys,
Ive lurked on these forums for a long time and read a LOT of useful stuff, but I simply cannot find the information Im looking for on the above.
I am definitely going the Subaru route with my bus. I will use a lot of the RJES products including the Bell housing as it looks a quality product. Engine wise I really would like to go the EZ30 route, but I can only find a limited amount of information on it. A couple of guys have done the conversion, the Orange Kombi, but no build thread only a handful of pictures, and a guy who runs a business in Aus has put one in a T25, but again its a very brief explanation and not really what Im after.
My questions are not really about the engine, more the ECU side of things. Is the only option to run a custom ECU with this engine, if so, which manufacturers are the best? I know the Ling G4 system will work, but would like to hear first hand experience if possible.
I have the cooling figured, and the fueling etc, but before I take the plunge I want to know a lot more about this engine. It ticks all of the boxes as far as what I need/want, but seems a bit of an enigma!! ANY help will be very much appreciated.

I dropped and EZ30D in my T3 last year, cracking engine.
You've got 2 choices one simple one not.
EZ30D 99-03 obd2 (212 hp) much like any subaru conversion, get RJES to do the loom work, use ecu etc, from the donor car.
EZ30R 03 onwards CAN BUS(240 hp or so I think), there are a few in the USA, all on after market engine management set up.
Mine has been pretty much trouble free for 5000 miles, I retained the crusie control which is nice, sounds lovely, quieter than my ej22. Goes link stink _________________ 1989 VW Magnum Multivan EZ30
Do you have any pictures of the engine conversion throughout the process? I was looking at the later engine, but as it seems a lot easier with the EZ30D I will go for that one I think.
Did you use the RJES bellhousing?
I will send off the loom to be modded by RJES too. Other thing Im unsure of is the clutch setup, can you tell me your setup so I can start looking for various bits please?

No pictures of the conversion as such, I was already running an ej22 so it was a pretty straight forward swap really. It's not a lot different to any subaru conversion.
I'm running the RJES bellhousing with the turbo clutch set up, VW input shaft and clutch plate. It maybe stating the obvious but, buy a running donor car, don't buy and engine, or you will,no doubt have expensive bits missing.
You'll need a flywheel and pressure plate from a 5 speed wrx, you can use the wrx clutch plate, but you would also need the RJES input shaft. _________________ 1989 VW Magnum Multivan EZ30
Hi,
Currently have a 2.0 non turbo in my t3 westy and even though I've been cruising round northern France between 70-80mph last week, I'm a sucker for more power. James72, what is involved with changing upto a 3.0? My conversion was done by TSR and I have been replacing any suspect parts with RJES so it is now running perfect. Is it straight swap with the engine and loom or is more involved? Can I reuse my rjes reverse manifold or is it different?
Is it easier to go with a 2.5 over the 3.0 and is it worth the effort from 2.0 to 2.5?
