Isuzu Diesel conversion – a complete set up
Hi
I converted my 71 bay about 2 years ago using an adaptor plate and an Isuzu 1.7 turbo diesel. The reasons for this was simple, i wanted more power, better economy and reliability. I wanted to do this while leaving the van looking as standard as possible
I achieved all of this, van returns 35+ mpg, will cruise at 65-70 doing this sort of economy, 40+ on a long run
There is NO ECU so no complicated electronics to go wrong or sort out when installing
However due to a new building project i have decided to sell my van, i have a buyer who wants the van with an air cooled engine so will switch things back. The conversion is completely reversible, the radiator pipes run under the van where the heater pipe used to be (rotten anyway most of the time) and on to a spare wheel mounted on the roo bars (the van is an Aussie import).
Included in the sale will be the following:
• Isuzu engine, it had covered about 90k when i got the donor car. This has had the timing belt done, a new alternator fitted, full service, etc. These engines are bullet proof and will last for years
• Adaptor plate, this includes the new input shaft for the gearbox, new clutch, really simple to fit
• Fuel tank, this had to be cut and welded as the cooling pipe sticks out the front when the engine is mounted to the gear box. The impact on capacity is minimal, 4-5 litres loss, so still holds approx 55 litres
• Firewall, cut to match the above
• Engine mount bar, this has the catch built into it for the engine lid and mounts on the rear chassis at either side. It simply unbolts to allow the engine to come straight out
• Front roo bar, this includes the spare wheel mount that houses the radiator, the pipes themselves run in the roo bar mounting tubes. The roo bar itself mounts on the bumper mounts below the van
• The full run of pipes (in silicone)
• There is also a complete rear heater from a Sharan that i have not fitted.
• A full stainless steel exhaust system
Please note that this is a completed conversion that you can come and view prior to buying.
All connections, clips, fittings etc are included with this set up; i have literally spent £000’s on this conversion. If you are thinking of doing a conversion do your maths, the engine, rad and adaptor plate are only part of the story, its the pipes, rad set up, clips, bolts, brackets and screws that add up!
Yours for £1550 OVNO
I will get some pics and a video of it running up over the weekend
