Gearbox for Baywindow 1z, re-engeiring or APP?

Hello everyone, I'm new in this forum and decided to talk because I have a general question to do.

For a baywindow with a 1.9 1Z engine, would be the AAP diesel gearbox a good alternative for getting better ratios? Any objections there?

I've heard some problems with the gearbox steering, that it goes on the side instead of the nose, but I'm not sure about the consequences of that.

Hi! I am not familiar with these specific boxes, but I do know it is a lot of work to remodel the shifter linkage from nose-shift to side-shift. No personal experience, though. But I've seen it done. Here's a link to gearbox ratios, so you may look some up. And another one so you could calculate the ratios vs tyre-size vs speed.
