EJ20 99 NA Split - RJES Speed Sensor.
I'm getting error 24 when driving, it sounds like the problem that ElusiveStranger had in this post http://www.vwkd.co.uk/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2739&highlight=error+code, my problem is that I don't think my donor car had a neutral switch fitted, if it did i'm not sure how it was wired in, so I'm not sure what to check.

What's your symptoms?
Have you got 12V supplied to the VSS?
The NPS dodge is to just ground the wire that goes to the ECU. If the switch connector's still there, cut and bend a paper clip into a "U" and shove it in, the other side of the connector's earthed (very technical ) _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

Warning light comes on when I'm driving, if I slow down i.e. when I come to a junction the warning light goes out. Idle is OK, and it doesn't stall at junctions.
Yes, 12v supplied to the VSS, I hope, will check tomorrow
Not sure which wire the NPS is on the ECU, what wire colour is it?
Thanks

Make sure your ECU is receiving a signal from the speed sensor still.
Mine did the exact same things when my VSS failed.
wasnt stalling but the light was coming on when coasting along with no throttle, would go out when stopped.
24 (idle control valve) is a common one that comes up when the speed sensor isn't working.
The computer thinks the ICV is faulty cos when you're rolling along with no throttle the ECU thinks the car isnt moving with no VSS signla but cant work out why the engine revs are still too high so thinks the ICV must be faulty.
hence the code 24. _________________ 1974 1303 Germanlook Suba-Beetle

Guys thanks for your help. I located the NPS connector, (two pin brown connector) with the other gearbox connections and shorted it out. Hopefully this will solve the problem if not I will have a look at the VSS.
Thanks

My VSS problem seems to have returned.
How do you check that you're getting pulses to the ECU from the VSS, can you check it with a digital volt meter?
It's an RJES vss. |

You can use a voltmeter* or a lamp (5V LED or a bulb). Led's the best option.
* Sometimes the good old analogue ones work better as you'll see the needle "twitch". A digital one may fail to react _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.
