|

Hi all!
just recently i have lost power in my van, when accelerating there would be a point say 3.5- 4 k revs the cams would kick in and it would rapidly accelerate but now i don't seem to get that "kick" it just accelerates slowly up the revs.
I have had an acceleration problem before when you give it wide open throttle it would seem to stall but back off a tiny bit and it would go, but this is different, it doesn't make if=t fun to drive anymore
i did a compression test 178 175 160 160 so it seems one side is down but would this directly relate to the sudden loss of acceleration.
any help or advice would be appreciated
cheers, Paul |

Have you check for any error codes from the ECU?
if your getting no codes then your into the process of elimination
check the AFM, simple test of unplugging it when the engines running, the engine should stall indicating that the MAF is good. if the MAF is goosed then the engine will continue to run with it unplugged.
hows you throttle linkage? are you sure its still opening all the way.... just a thought.

ok i found my code light on the side of the ecu!. No codes though just flashes constantly. I will double check everything this weekend though.
Will check all the physical things, exhaust, vacum stuff, throttle cable etc.
Cheers, the search continues. |

Done a little bit of reading on it tonight and although unplugging the MAF is not a definitive test to indicating a faulty MAF but its a starting point.
I would.....
Firstly reset your ecu and see how things are.
Secondly attempt to burrow or replace the MAF, reset ecu and see how things are.
Tell us about your fuel tank? I know you said you've got a fuel injection tank now... What size inlet and outlets are present on the tank? How have you designed the fuel system for the bus?
What colour sticker is on the side of your MAF? _________________ Think......

Another thing..... If the ecu is not picking up failed sensors (and lighting the CEL) does not mean that they are all working at 100% they can degrade and still produce signals the ecu is happy to accept and work with although they are incorrect yet sufficient for the engine to continue running. _________________ Think......

ok, i have a green label maf, the fuel tank has 12mm outlet to 12mm pump input, then 8mm output to 8mm filter, then 8 mm after to pump i guess will need to look for sure. I might redo all the fuel lines this weekend. I will reset the ecu too.
Being a green maf i guess they are hard to get hold of. i wonder if i could just swap ecu and maf? i bet not. |

It appears that fuel system design is all down to personal preference but yours sounds good.
A gravity feed fuel pump via 12mm lines is good as you have plenty of fuel to supply and cool the injection pump. 8mm from there on is what you want to maintain the desired pressure.
I personally would install a filter between the pump and the tank to avoid any debris and sludge from the tank entering the fuel pump. But this does also depend on whether you have a gauze type filter built into the fuel pick up within the tank. But each to there own.
Sounds like you have two pumps though.
If you can find equilivalent components then you should be able to just swap them other then the ecu if you have the immobiliser built into it. What year is your engine? Ecu's are pretty robust items though. I would suggest that a sensor would fail before an ecu however i imagine it's happened that way before
I have a green label MAF spare. It's from a phase one engine around 1995. pm me if your interested in it and I'll send you a picture of it to compare to what you've got.
Are you handy with a multimeter. You can test sensors to measure the resistance values to see if it's working within there perrameters. _________________ Think......

sorry i meant to fuel regulator, i think that is where it goes! I will check the part number on the maf, im not sure what exact year my engine is im afraid. I think its early though.
Cheers dude i will let you know about maf, roll on the weekend!!!! |

ok, looked at my maf
so i was reading about mafs and some people have used an electronic cleaner on theirs, so i got this
i didnt have the chance to drive it full wack to see if it cured the problem but i definately think it improved it, its alot smoother driving round, i mean i think it is, maybe its a placebo? anyway i will check further tomo.
cheers |
