|
|
G'day.
I was reading elsewhere on here and came across the comment about radiator hoses going above the rear beam. How? Seriously. Mine are currently going under the beam and I hate that setup. Primarily because one of them likes to rub on the trailing arm.
My bay has that heavy duty high pressure oil hose for rad hose, and it has a lot of flex without collapsing. Now what I was wondering is when people run it above what do they do? Any clearancing of things, or perhaps some pipe bent to navigate through above the beam and near that diagonal brace.
I just want to find out before I waste a lot if time draining the coolant and trying something impossible. |

on my 71 bay I've removed the old heater pipes that make an indentation in the rear floor. I plated them from the inside which then gives slightly more room underneath for a pipe to fit between it and the suspension.
Hope that helps!
Cheers

i used mdpe poly pipe 32mm od and it fitted between the floor and rear axle tube without cutting but cutting the the bottom of the old air tube off makes a upward groove in the floor that allows extra room _________________ 1964 rat 13 window deluxe 1Z tdi,

um... okay let's start again. Both these replies rely on something which I didn't realize was a factor. Apologies for that. My bay started life as a panel so there is no rear heat system. To be honest all that has ever really existed of the original heat was the Y tube in the rear crossmember because it seems to have been torn out for the camper conversion in the '70's
Also I should say that my hoses are fairly far out to the sides because of where the radiator connections are.
Looks liek I don't have a good photo. Alright folks. imagination time.
One hose passes through there and the other through the hole on the other side which I guess a heater pipe for some other variant normally goes through.
edit: here's a slightly less embarrassing one:

Sorry for the late reply....

Yup, my bus.
But beware, you can get an airlock - once cleared though, it's done

Thanks. that was very helpful. i tried an experiment today to see if I could get my hose to fit above the tube on its own. Not a chance. I got a lovely green shower as a reward too. I did dig up a bit of rad hose with a nice bend in it which goes most of the way to connecting it all up but it would need one more bend. Besides I think it was the un-reinforced hot side type. For now I guess I'll just see if it passes inspection.
I did re-shuffle the hose a little so it's not resting on the trailing arm. What do people use as support for the hoses by the way? |

I can't remember his name, but it was from here - back in the day. Do a search in "For sale" sounds like I'm teaching grandma to suck eggs
But... they're Gates hoses _________________ The advice you receive on here is worth the paper it's written on.

I had a good look at their site looking for a way to buy too.
What would be better: two tube curves joined by a bit of hose or two curved hoses joined by a bit of tube?
I'm talking where it has to snake forward over the beam then under the little floor support behind the rear crossmember. There is no way I could feed a solid double bend through there. Just thinking because it would be a neat solutionand because of the layout I can avoid an airlock too. |

Where you're describing is exactly where my Pirtek hose is running
Edit, have a close look here (my bus):

Except for where you have yours going through the rear crossmember, yes it looks the same. Mine go through on both sides, near the frame rails. |
