Ok I am planning to try and bump start work on my beetle again which will no longer be an engine conversion as such. I was going to go golf 2E motor and had everything to do it only found it was just proving to be too much ball ache on the bodywork, then along came a 2litre type4 engine, the holy grail Happy.

However the type 4 engine I still intend to run the golf fuel injection system as basically its what the T25 wbx engine came with but I was wondering, the ECU and engine wiring, how separate is it from the main loom?

Basically I have a 1989 golf loom, 2 bags and apparently is the entire car, I plan to rebuild my beetle and thought to be honest I could make use of the golfs wiring and eventually I was going to use the golfs dash with the FI so I could get mpg read outs and the works, I have decided that is a little in the future now and thought what I'd like to do is get most of the wiring loom run in, except the ECU/engine loom which in theory would be in the wrong place anyway in a beetle, stick a stock 1600 engine in it for the time being, but when the type 4 biturbo engine is built, be able to withdraw one engine, install the new one and almost plug and play the FI engine bay loom and ecu without making mega changes to the car.

I know a couple of people have just used the ecu/loom bit for running gti motors in vans etc and wondered what peoples experience was?
