Quick run down - EJ20 into a late bay using a RJES bellhousing (see top left for link).

Right, you can see my chassis modification. The green writing shows where the orig g/box hanger bolt was. The starter motor fouls this. Cutting and grinding is required.

My modified & extended g/box hanger. The back plate has been doubled up using the cut section from the front. The rest was boxed in. The other tab locates in the upper left bellhouse hole - I did this to try and keep the weight distributed evenly on the rubbers.

Feeling lazy (& want to get on the road ASAP) I bought a Custom Off Road (Australia www.customoffroad.au.com) TB Invertor. Brad at COR is a very helpful chap. Unfortunately you have to ring them, they're 9 hrs ahead. Still, speaking to people can have it's advantages Happy

That's what comes in the box.

I decided to reverse the manifold. It needs cutting & after loads of research (www.weidefamily.net, http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com etc)

There's the cuts. I'd made templates before I cut the real thing. Pretty scary moment!

Had a bit of ally 'spun up' for me, was going to use a stock bit of B & Q stuff to start.

That's the manifold in situ

Radiator
Here's a shot of how I'm going to mount my XJ40 rad onto steel box section.

The tube was bought at my local B & Q. It's 6mm ID. 35mm lengths were cut to fit between the flanges on the rad. Here's a detail shot

I still haven't bought my anti-vibration bobbins so I've set the rad aside fot the time-being.

Radiator/Scoop hangers

Basically it's 20mm box, 2mm section & 3mm hot rolled steel angle. Does anyone else find this a pig to weld? The "all-thread" is there just to visualise what it's going to look like when fitted

Got a hell of a lot of inspiration from "Surf n Swoosh" on Aussie.

I shall be bracing where the rod is with 2mm angle which I still have to buy.
When I get the bobbins I'll be welding two box sections from front to back to support the rad frame.

Tank
I had two 10mm plumbing fittings silver soldered onto the tank.

I thought this was the best way to go to keep accessability to the lines. A fair few seem to do returns via one of the breathers (or the filler neck) but if the line perishes it's a pig to change. It also means you don't have to drill a hole for the return. Having them underneath gives you chance to do a visual inspection every so often.

Because I wanted the return fuel to be as far away as poss from the feed pipe I bent some 8mm copper pipe (gas hob/oven fitting) to approx 90°

This had to be inserted through the fuel gauge hole. I'd inserted some stiff wire into the pipe so I could guide it through the fitting. When it was through the fitting I soldered some 10mm pipe and a flange to hold the fuel hose.

Looking through the gauge hole I nipped up the fitting holding the pipe in place. Then when it was secure I pressed the pipe down so it exits close to the bottom of the tank.

wiring, it's somewhere else on here Wink

Well that's about it for the timebeing! Will keep you posted.

Thanks so far: Rich Baker, Rich Jones, Ricola, AussieVeedubbers - big respect to them all (Check out HelBus and Surf n Swoosh (71EJVan) for rides), Brad at Custom Off Road.
