Ok, MOT today and passed with flying colours. But when i change down from a cruise to say second or first approaching a stop etc the engine either cuts out or it will keep running if i am a bit nifty on the go pedal.
Is this due to no VSS or another fault? It drives really well otherwise. |

| I've got the nps wires plugged together. It's a 96 legacy donor, 2.0 n/a. Aslo my check engine light comes on after about half a mile but there is no fault when checked and goes away when restarted. |

That's classic lack of VSS behavior.
You will notice the Chk eng light will come on when your above about 25mph and start coasting with no throttle.
If you can read the code it will actually be the Idle control valve fault but that is due to no VSS signal.
The ECU doesn't know whats going on when the throttle is shut, it thinks the car is not moving but the revs are at 2000rpm. _________________ 1974 1303 Germanlook Suba-Beetle

The error code behaviour varies enormously between different ECU part numbers. Some ECU's do give error code 24 (ISCV) as a 'phantom' code when run without a speed sensor, but this is a minority problem. It only affects only three ECU part numbers that I have come across, accompanied by error code 33 (VSS). All are from the mid '90's. The rest only show error code 24 when when there really is an ISCV problem.
As well as Delta Dash (MY00 --> only), which I have had for a long time now, I have just bought the genuine Subaru diagnostic gear for all models up to MY06, including all the '90's models. There is not as much detailed info available from the '90's ECU's but having the right tools will hopefully help to get a better understanding of these kind of things in the future. _________________ Regards,
