Theoretically there must be a way to dodge around the immobiler... What does it prevent coming on? Elec to ecu?power to fuel
pump? I seem to be missing the immobiliser on my loom so am thinking how I could go about getting around it?
There must be a way otherwise got bags wouldn't be able to nick them! |

Hi
I bought my motor and loom without a key, barrel and ignition wiring loom, I had to get all of them and have a key programmed, the key and barrel just sit under the back seat now.

Often wondered about the significance of my key. Found it had fallen out of the barrel once and motor was still starting and running, reckon it had been out a week. Have it all taped up now so it can't move. Sounds crazy but is it likely the ecu can reset itself to to run without.
I also thought i needed a speed sensor 3 years ago when i fitted conversion. Would stall at junctions or if i took my foot of the accelerater and coasted. Put up with it for a few weeks and all of a sudden it stopped 50k later still no vss fitted and no stalling. _________________ 89 Crew Cab (Subaru 2.5na)

Hi Griff71
When your key fell out maybe the chip in the key was still close enough to be read by the switch.

How did you do that? There must be amarket for that sort of thing (key, antena/barrel, wiring and coding) as a kit for people having this problem. |

Hi
I bought a 2nd hand barrel from a wrecker and had a Subaru dealer program the key, most locksmiths can program keys.

Hi
The trouble with that idea is the cost of the unit plus dyno time to set it up and it will never work as well as the standard ECU unless your talking about a modified motor. If the motor has variable valve timing like my motor you need a very sophisticated ECU to make it all work.
I'm not a fan of microtech, aka electric carburettor. I have a plug and play Autronic SM4 for my STI bug, I have changed the exhaust and inlet track so the motor will benefit from the extra tuning that an after market ECU can offer. The ECU is worth about $2600 and a few 100+ to tune it.
I had my loom modified by these people http://amauto.com.au
I asked about deleting the immobiliser, they said it wasn't possible and having a 2nd hand barrel and key recoded was the only way to go.
