Hello all
Just introducing myself, my name’s Dave, I’ve been lurking on here and reading/researching for ages, and decided it’s finally time I joined. I bought a T25/T3 about 3 ½ years ago, with the intension of Subaruing it, however, the unplanned arrival of MiniMe 9 months later put all plans on hold.
Anyhoo, he’s a bit older now, so I’ve got some time to play with the van again, and it’s going to get Subaru'd at last.
However, I’m not sure of what method I’m going to use yet. I don’t really want to use my VW gearbox as the gearing is too short, and I don’t think they are really up to the job – I want a bullet proof family camper I can use every day, and the VW boxes just seem too fragile, like trouble waiting to happen.
So, I’m looking at 3 options:
1 – fitting the Scooby box with the reversed crown wheel and pinion from Subarugears
2 – fitting a Renault UN1 box with the Ultimate engineering adapter and RJES bellhousing and input shaft
3 – but my preferred choice is to mid mount the Scooby lump and keep the standard Scooby box. I know this will be anything but straightforward, but I am an engineer, and if I can save a big chunk of cash by not having to convert the box, then I’m well up for the challenge. Plus any money saved can be spent on re-engineering various other shortcomings on the van! I got the idea for this after seeing a Bay on here with the complete front end of an Impreza grafted into the back of it, don’t think that would work on a fully loaded T25 camper though.
So, to that end, I have a few questions regarding the size of the Scooby engine:
1 – is a quad cam wider than a twin cam, and what are the widths of the 2 engines?
2 – what is the height of the cylinder head i.e. from the intake manifold mounting face to the exhaust manifold mounting face?
3 – what is the length of the engine/box from the front of the cam belt covers to the drive shaft centre line?
4 – what is the height of the intake manifold?
Thanks for your time, sorry for the long first post
