bay front heater blower and matrix

my heater matrix -seems to have taken bloomin ages despite the donkey work having been done by Jace - he developed it for his van and gave me pattern parts to weld up and tinker with (cheers jace). lots of odd angles and confined space to consider but its in there now and blows a gale in the cab. 3 speed fan from Mk1 golf and using the golf matrix. HAd to fit and refit a million times and do a lot to get it airtight for max efficiency but im pleased with the outcome - it means I retain the original heat riser tube in the cab for original looks.

Nice job mate. Looks to be a nice neat fit under there. I'm not ready to make my heater as yet due to welding work in progress but it's always good to think about things in advance. Making use of the existing heat riser tubes is the way to go and I was thinking about putting the heater unit in the back blowing down the existing heater tubes but not sure about heat loss etc ?
I made a similar heater out of stainless steel when I built my Covin but used Ford 3 speed fans and heater matrix from Suzuki Jeep. It works a treat and is very hot.
What's the heat output like on your heater ?

I did something similar for my 1973 1303 (super) beetle. I used the same blower (golf Mark I) but used a heater matrix from the Alfa Romeo 33 (also the engine donor).
I tested the blower on my workbench...man does that thing blow! Happy

It produces a lot of air.

I also had to take a lot of measurements and testfit it a lot of times during the build of the box that contains the matrix.

But, my conversion is not finished yet, so I do not know if my setup works. But I'm very glad you have good results with a similar setup, that sounds promising.

gerrelt - very neat job - im thinking I may make my rear heater out of ali instead of steel as its less constrained - good idea on the radiator foil though - I may revise mine to have the same. keep up the good work Wink

There are some nice neat ways of sorting the heating out there. On mine I used a Fiat Panda 2 speed Heater and core underneath the fron of the bus, but I found I lost too much heat when it was travelling down to the front. It was fine whilst stationary blew heat into the cab great, but once under way the performance suffered, so now I've routed the hoses down the drivers side of the bus to between the seats and am building an MDF case for the heater matrix and fan to sit in Hopefully the MDF will deaden the fans noise, I'm now using a Ford Escort heater fan which is as wide as between the seats and am trying to find a nice wide matrix to sit in front of it.
