i have now just taken it for a short run down the road, stopped after about 500 yards think it ran out of diesel?
but my question is how much should it smoke on start up. i havn't wired up the coldstart solenoid but was told this wasn't needed?
is this my problem or is the smoke gona clear after a bit more of a run, |

hello matey, my xantia 1.9td has always smoked on startup until it warms up. I was told is was the turbo oil seals but it seems to clear up when warm so probably not.
I get a puff of blue smoke on startup and then one every 10 seconds for the first few minutes - is your similar? _________________ '79 Bay running citroen 1.9td and phat tyres! |

Hi, the cold start could do with connecting up ,( I'd run it through a relay ) one of the temp sensors would have controlled the lower cold start solenoid , this adjusts the pump timing to stop it missing a beat ,
as for temperature sensor what you could do with is looking at the stat housing to see if there's a blanking plug if not have a look around a breakers?
I've drilled a Peugeot brass sensor out and threaded it for an early DG / VW diesel sensor to fit M10 x 1mm , these sensors also seem to work the VDO 50mm temp gauges found in Porsche/vw/Audi .
The Peugeot sensor does not provide the correct resistance signal has a lower ohms reading
