Have you checked out some of the recon engines on ebay? I was very surprised at how little they were going for. Also some are exchange so you send your old one off and get your deposit back.

This is the way i think i will go when the day comes as don't fancy buying a donor and disposing of it again.

Alternatively i was talking to a guy who restores early impreza's who reckons they are the easiest of all to get parts for as he states they are a 'future classic' he has a very steady work flow to prove it and a workshop full of spares. After recently doing the head gaskets on mine it is obvious it is just like an old VW engine on a slightly bigger scale so relatively easy to work on. Why not give it a go?

Good Luck

Griff

I'd just swap out the engine, you could spend a fortune fixing your existing one.

thats the beauty of the conversion once its in and running if the engine dies you dont need a donor car just an engine and swap everything over

when my first engine started having issues i just bought a straight engine, no loom or ECU
it was from a completely different model of car
my original was an aus spec 92 liberty and my new engine is a JDM 95 legacy.
just swaped over the intake manifold, alternator and my sump and exhaust system
plug it in and drive away

so cheap to pick up too, $550au and i was back on my way
cant do that with 150hp aircooled engine Grin
