hi all, does anyone know/recommend anywhere to get lengths of rad hose? ive looked several times on ebay etc to no avail. basically i am after 32/34mm inside diameter rubber hose to go from front to back of van in one hit, and back again(spare wheel rad). i could go down to 28mm copper piping but would rather not. thanks in advance, mike.

Forget e-bay unless you know specifically what you're after.

Pirtek (Yellow pages) do very nice hose, it's vaguely flexible but not much.
Gates, available from proper automotive places and Halfrauds and do a very nice flexi hose, 600mmlengths IIRC

Try the best you can to keep the original I/D of the hose. A 32 -> 28mm2 is a severe reduction in Cross Sectional Area

Now, Pirtek is rubber hose so therefore a very good insulator. Going metal is going to dissipate the heat soooo much better.

If you go copper, insulate the copper from the chassis with plastic coated clips - galvanic corrosion might set in (Google or dogpile's your friend here - make your own mind up). Insulate the copper from your block using rubber pipe too, copper & ally/steel isn't a good idea.

I'm running NA Scooby, 4m pirtek, chassis rail mounted XJ40 rad with no worries

i looked at copper piping but couldnt find anything over 28mm, am i looking in the wrong places? if i go rubber i would prefer one continious length for the hole bus, i really dont fancy the expense of all those hose joiners and possible leak spots. cheers, mike

For anything bigger than 28mm copper you have to go to a decent plumbers merchant, don't expect to get it in your average DIY store...

hi all, does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the cappiliar thermostat switches? i am looking at buying a 12"fan with the adjustable temp switch. apparently they can either be fitted to the fins of the rad or put into the top hose. if you pop them into the hose, do you still get a good seal? is sticking it to the rad going to get an accurate water temp reading, especially when on the move with air flow etc. cheers, mike.

I used one of these...

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/adjustable-fan-controller-thermostat-stat-763-p.asp

from Car builder solutions, figured it would be best as as I was unsure how well the Rad set up I've got (under floor/ beetween chassis rails) was going to work, fed the pick up into the 'top' radiator hose, used ptfe tape and a smear of red hermatite to ensure a good seal and it seems to have worked ok, the only thing I found is that the wire that runs from the sensor to the control unit is a fixed length (it cannot be altered) so the only place I could mount the control unit was under the drivers seat with the adjusting dial exiting just under the bottom mount for the drivers side seat belt (hope that makes sense! this is in a Bay by the way)

By the way, for my long run water pipes I used 32mm ID thick wall alloy tube from metals 4 u.

Not bad prices and excellent delivery times but make sure 100% that you know what you want and double check your basket before you order cos there's no going back once you hit the checkout button!!!
