As per my thread in the main WK Chat section I am looking at options for putting a w/c engine into a split screen camper.

Has anyone put a 1.8T 20v engine into a splitscreen before? It is a camper so I don't want to loose any (much) space in the back, still need to be able to get the rock and roll bed down etc!!

Any ideas of what is required, just considering this as an alternative to the scooby route.

As with most things anything is possible...

I have put a 2001 TDI into my split. The engine size will be the same so it will fit but will be tight.

You need to read mythread on SSVC site, vw tdi conversion.. on readers rides

The wiring and ecu will be the hardest problem

Cheers, will take a look. Had seen an engine with the wiring loom all stripped back, immobiliser taken out etc. which looked like a good start, however am now thinking that a good TDi would be a better option in a camper than all out power (which would be more fun!!).

ECU and loom can be done but its not cheap

Mark at the Vagdoctor can do it. He'll do all the chopping about on the loom too

I can do the pre imobaliser stuff and the early imobaliser such as the aaz, 2e and 1z engines but they are fairly old engines now

The only AAZ I've played with was a non imobaliser.

It had ...

one wire to the pump which was a cut off valve (power on engine runs, power off it stops)

One wire to a cold start valve quite near the pump

The wires for the Glows and temp sensor

Its pretty simple really. A good mate has a dead AAZ that seized due to an oil problem, I'm sure he'll sell you the pump if you need. It was a very good engine until the oil pump had a problem
