this is my homemade vss.its an EGR light mileage counter box.that turns the light on every 15,000 miles.i dont know if you have thhese where you are,not all cars had them here too.
so its the reed sw from the scooby speedo,a magnet block from a pertronix electrik ignition. the two ends of speedo cables welded together
and some brass square stock filled with solder for the short cable.

Vehicle Speed Sensor

It normally gives 4 pulses per wheel revolution to the ECU. Some Scooby lumps require it or the ECU throws a wobbly.

I dont really know what the "EGR light mileage counter box" is?
Also, could you use a crank sensor as a speed sensor? Or the speed sensor from a different car?

here in the us vehicles have a egr timmer set to trigger the light on every 15000 miles as a mantainance reminder.
i think other vss would work.if they count 4 pulses every rev.
rjes has a good one ,very simple.
