|
|
Hello ello ello.
Well before my accident I managed to do a fair bit to the bus to help me out on winter motoring and to help my plan to run the bus on vegy oil. I was having trouble starting her up in the mornings and my battery was on the way out so I changed all the glow plugs, starter motor, battery and up rated my alternator to a 70amp's one (that also had a w take off point for a Tac).
She now sounds like a ty-fighter from star wars when you start her up which should help get her going when I change over to vegy oil.
And today having found a bit of movment in my legs I wired in the Tac. Thanks for the wiring info Mr Covin told me, that saved me a lot of time.
I'm using a porsche 911 Tac that I've wired in via a Dakota Ditital DS-1 diesel conversion box that takes the alternator signal and converts it into a coil type pulse. It is designed for 4 or 8 cylinder tacs but there is loads of calibration you can do to make it work for the 6 cylinder tac-she works a beuty. I've calibrated mine to the same as the escort on tick over which is 850 (I think)
Havent tested it on the road yet but I will in the next day or 2 so hopefully should finaly be able to get some stats up. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

Excellent stuff and pretty reasonable revs you got there
After much digging on the forum I managed to find what I was getting from my escort td b4 I chopped it up
In 5th...
70mph = 2600rpm
80mph = 3000rpm
So a little difference I'm guessing 4th would have been about the same maybe.
DO you reckon you would be able to get away with some bigger tyres on the back to bring the revs down a bit more ? _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Nice one on the info JP-Yer I recon I could get bigger tyres on you know with the new wheels I've got a lot more space now-gonna have to let these ones wear down a bit first even at trade price its still £100 for a pair of tyers.
Sorry Phil I ment to pop up a link for the converter box but forgot here it is though.
http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=128/category_id=287/home_id=59/mode=prod/prd128.htm
Theres loads of cool suff worth a look, infact it was Rich the told me about them-nice one fella.
The box's are about $25 + postage and I got stung £25 by customs I think it came to just under £40 all in. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |

I need to get some tyres for my rear wheels what size do you reckon I should go with ? the wheels are 17x7. I have 205x50x17 on the front.
What about 235x65x17 ! May cause the bus to rake a bit I guess !
Anyone know how wide you can you go with a 7 ? _________________ 1971 Devon Bay with 1800 Ford Turbo Diesel Engine (wip)

Jerry72van is the man to ask he knows evrything about tyers! I recon 235x65x17 will fit. Apparantly 235 is fine on 7" width rim mine are 7" width and the 235's work just fine. I would check your offset first though to make sure they will fit under your wheels arch.
Maybe check out 235x60. It gets a bit funny comparing differant width tyers. From what i'm told a 235x55 is the same diameter as a 65x205 so that might mean you wont need a tyre as big as a 235x65. _________________ www.faltownskateboards.com |
