Hi all
A chance to say hello and share some pictures of my latest project.
Fitting a Porsche 996 engine into a t25 T3 bus.
This is still work in progress, but the metal work is nearly all done.
In short this was originally a 1.9 4 speed petrol bus when it arrived at my work shop back in January.
The original engine and box were removed, along with the inner wings, bulkhead above gear box and the trays behind the rear lights.
This all had to go to make way for the 6 cylinder porsche motor with 5 speed tiptronic gear box.
Once the engine and box was offered up it was time to remake the new inner wings and bulkhead.
As you can see its a bit of a big lump but with about 300 reliable bhp well worth the effort.
The new longer inner wings
The air box was built into the bulkhead to keep it supplied with cold air which will come from the off side standard air scoop in the rear corner.
The rear corner air vent now supplies all of its air to the air box via the ducting which also supports the raised floor.
This is the ducting for the air box.
Rear light area is now enclosed from the road wheels. This was done to allow the two large rear exhaust silencers to fit where there was once a steel shelf similar to battery tray an T2.
This is where the exhaust will fit behind the rear road wheels.
Due to the added length of the porsche gear box I had to loose some space under the rear seat area.
Also the rear cross member under the van had to be moved forward by about 200mm.
As with all big engine conversions the rear boot floor had to be raised, in this case 100mm.

Time for a few more pics of the 996 project bus.
The fabrication part of the project is over for now,
next stop the paint shop to paint the engine bay before the motor goes back in.
Then the fun stuff starts, sorting through the bears nest of wires!
Happy viewing.

Scheit, that's a barsteward! I guess the engine had a higher price than the bus. |

The hardest job will be convincing the insurance company that the bus is now worth £20,000 not £2,000.
The van has been off to the paint shop now for a bit of paint on all this new metal, but it wont be treated to a full resto and paint job all over until the van has done some miles. The ultimate T25 rat look bus. _________________ More T3 Parts For Sale
