| can anyone tell me what is the easiest engine to put into my lawn mower t25 bus.i have been told that if i fit a diesel bellhousing to my existing gearbox,it will match modern vw golf engines. is this true.also do i need to alter the input shaft or will it fit?i also have been told that i will need the sump and oil pick up so i can tilt the engine to fit under my engine cover.i would be really greatful if someone with the knowledge could answer my questions,as my wife and children would really like to go on holiday in our camper, before the wife leaves me of course,to marry a man with a scubby powered vw van!!!! this is my first post to this marvelous website and am looking forward to all the advice what ever it may be.thanks alot madmegs............ |

converting the t25 lawn mower bus is quite a lot of work over converting a watercooled van as you obviously dont have the cooling stuff etc - that said nothing is impossible.
there a lot of info on the brick-yard. co.uk about this. Having recently upgraded a t25 to TD this is a short version of some tips:
you will need the derv bell housing which tilts the engine over.
you will need the diesel engine support bars
if you dont intend to use an engine already from a t25 (eg 1.6D or 1.6 TD)which already come with a wedge sump etc you will need the wedge sump from a t25 derived deisel engine. The alternative engines you may want to consider in this case are the 1Y or AAz golf (and other VW/Audi) these dont have wedge sumps so youll need to source a donor wedge sump, engine mount etc - these are fairly hard to come by (although i might still have some for sale).
so in summary theres quite a lot of parts to aquire and a fair bit of work involved to achieve a 75bhp derv engine in an air cooled van. I would seriously consider starting with a water cooled or ideally a deisel van at least to save a lot of work. Or look at something like RJES kits to put in a subaru engine for a bolt in off the shelf solution. Even those require a radiator though!
not sure its all your answers but its a start. |
