I'm toying between the 2ltr turbo or the 2.5. i really like the sound of the turbo(yes i know it's so shallow dahlings) but it's been pointed out to me about the possibility of lag with one. for what i want to do (go on you can laugh)which is wheely a bay, i'm not sure how that'd effect things. opinions please Happy

Hi there BAJABAYBUTCHER,

Well to make a bay wheelie, you need to be a butcher i guess. Laugh Out Loud
Take out half of the lenght of the bus and weld her up together, that will do the trick. Eeeek
I don't think that it is possible to wheelie a bay in "normal" state with any engine you can think of.
You really have to reinforce the driveline anyway, 'cause you lift the bus with the axles.
Lots of torque involved.

Good luck

Paul

Is doing wheelies actually an objective - to the point where you'll build the bus specifically for it? I have to say that'd be a strange objective, but each to their own! Wouldn't tweaking the suspension, ride height, etc height to put the energy to use going forward faster instead be better?

If wheelies is the objective, a very heavy flywheel, a very strong race clutch, and very sticky rear tyres ought to help. I'd have thought a custom made, super heavy flywheel would help a lot, but it'd probably ruin the driveability and make gear shifting more difficult. Most of the initial energy which lifts the wheels probably comes from that stored in the flywheel at high rpm rather than the engine itself, although more engine power obviously helps too.

I doubt a turbo engine would produce as much power sat revving on the line (under no load) as a highly tuned naturally aspirated one. Nat asp cars are often first off the line when up against a turbo, only to get overtaken shortly after, once the boost kicks in. Nitrous ought to make a big difference too!

I spoke to someone recently who apparently remapped an EJ22 to a reliable 180 bhp with an aftermarket ECU. Therefore power in the turbo range ought the be an easy target for a remapped EJ25. Someone have a go!
