Has anyone done this? I'm about to start a scooby conversion and have an early bay crew cab, complete 944 and a turbo legacy. All the bits are there but is it worth putting them together?
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance. |

yes I have....but using 944 S2 suspension. Its surprisingly easy. I retained the bus torsion tube and srping plates but used the porsceh clevis mounts, shocks, arms etc.
which 944 do you have? if its an S2 i can prob provide you with pretty accurate measureements of whats reqd. if not just the general principle.
but before you start..I keep saying to everyone starting a project my biggest regret with my project is that I didnt mid engine my van using the subaru box, rear suspensioni etc as it would have been the cheapest way to gain rear discs, 5 speed box and decent suspension all in one hit.....so it may well be more beneficial grafting the whole front of the legacy into the back of the van and gaining that suspension set up than putting time into the porsche conversion. |

Wouldn't the four wheel steering be a bit of an issue how would you get round this ?
Some pics of 944 S2 set up on Early bay...

wow that looks very similar to my set up
I guess the easiest way round 4 wheel steering if you litereally welded in the whole leg front end would be to link the track rod to a chassis mounting point. IM sure there would be other ways but having not looked at the subaru set up i dont know what these would be.
hopefully we can persuade Mr Notch to find out |

As far as the mid mounting the scooby, I cant see me going that route. Too much work for this project. I've got a 12 week deadline for the conversion and bodywork, paint, interior, etc.
I've bought an RJES bellhousing, have a 2 litre bay box and the 944. How do I know if it's an S2?
A lot of the problems I'm likely to encounter have been covered brilliantly by you guys already - I'm optimistic! |

Fair enough...good choice on the RJES kit. Are you converting to hydraulic clutch as well?
the 944 s2 (is about 1990 on i think)but is recognisable as it has the alloy arms you can see in JPs picture - and the bigger brembo alloy brakes. The 944 turbos also had a similar set up but they had narrower alloy arms as they didnt have ABS. |
