Hi there,

Still considering what kind of gearbox to put in my "splitty".

Beetle tranny (1302/1303) is to light for the torque output from the EJ 22.
Porsche 914 can take that without any problems, but a reserviced one will set me back 3000,00 euro's.
I need to say that this one will be overhauled to Porsche specs by Martin Bott of www.bug@5speed.de in Germany.
Not only is it overhauled but certain parts are inhouse designed and manufactored including a new nose to get rid of the "sideshifting" and 2 new mounting brackets for fitting in a bug.
Also new brackets for the clutchcable are included.
But, still alot of money involved!

Does anyone of you has got another/cheaper idea how to tackle this problem?!

Regards,

Paul

Hi there,

Got some more info on gearboxes.
A type 1 beetlebox is possible but it has to be strenghened.
Gears 3 and 4 have to be changed cause of fine teething which will break under severe stress.
Diff has to be upgraded.

Are there any known gearboxbuilders in the UK?!
If so, share some info please.

Regards,

Paul
