Although I've made up a rad mount for the roof of my van, i've been having some nagging doubts! The main one of which is hot water pipes at head height, not too sure if the MOT man will like it? Also because the header tank's up there, it's a fair bit of plumbing out the side.
I'm just considering at the moment, putting it underneath, using the same rad VW transporter rad. It's a fair bit wider than the chassis legs so the only way it would fit is length ways down the centre like so:-
both it's inlet and out lets would be at the lowest point of the rad, would this prove difficult for bleeding?
Has anyone found that rads underneath didn't work? My van's mildly lowered so I wouldn't want to exceed the chassis legs by much more than 5'', which looking at it will leave the radiator at only a slight angle at best. Although my rad is pretty big, it's only 1.2x the original. Not sure if it'll have the cooling power! any thoughts appreciated.

I may have missed it but what are you mounting your rads underneath.
I have a 67 Split , currently towards the end of a tdi converstion
i have mounted two seat rads underneath with an air scoop, mounted on beetle shock mounts.
i kept the rads mounted flush and put a front scoop on of about 3 "
Speaking to graham colridge who also mounted his rads underneath, it worked fine for him.
How ever diesel do run cooler than petrol engines.

Cheers family van,
The engines an AAZ and the wagon's a bay window panel van. Those rads look ideal! mines 720x380 and proving to be an awkward size. it looks from the pics that yours actually sits up and between the chassis rails? I'm not sure if it's the the fans (the vw ones look much the same depth as yours) but I can't get enough clearence. I think I'd have to use one fan, to tuck it up in and get a slope.
