Thought it was about time I started a thread about the ford powered bay I recently bought from eBay.
Some of you may have seen some pics I posted when I joined, but for those that haven't,
this is how it was when we bought it:
The radiator has been fitted above the engine which is the first job I want to get sorted as it really
doesn't work well like this:
Aside from not working too well, it also takes up a lot of space that should be part of a bed!
I started taking some of this apart yesterday, but as with any job it looks like it gets more involved
than you first think!
First up, it looks like the top of the airbox over the carb actually sits a couple of mm higher than
where the bodywork needs to go back in...
Plus, if you look at how the back is done at the mo - ie the airvents, I'm going to have to remove these
and weld it back up so it's not a giant vent to your head when your in bed!
One solution I'm thinking of for the carb clearance is to swap from the standard downdraught DGAV to twin 40's or even 45's
Not sure what other people have done .....

Good to see another pinto powered bay, I'm in the process of converting one myself.
As far as the carb clearance issue is concerned I went down the twin weber 40s route with mine (any excuse!!), not up and running yet but they look nice. |

I've been thinking twin 40's too (or even 45's), but I think the mrs will kill me if she find out I spent the best part of £800 just to gain a few mm clearance!
Even more tempting was 40mm ITB's and change to fuel injection - I've got a set of Jenvey 40mm one's I was going to use on my honda powered mini, think I've also got a set of 45mm skyline one's somewhere but they don't have injector bosses as part of them so would need some extra work!
Not measured it properly, but I suspect a Lotus Elise fuel tank would fit straight in place of the original, depending on height. |

| Keep an eye out for some second hand ones mine came straight off a pinto with manifold and linkage etc for about £130 seem to be in pretty good shape to. Got to admit TBs and injection would be the ultimate setup though, might get better consuption as well? |
