When do you hope to be street legal ?

Also what sort of cooling set up are you going for ?

Not sure when I´ll get back on to the car, I just bought a new project (Phantom GTR) which will be done first but that hopefully won´t take too long!

All the details are on my website, cooling is with a Pace radiator from a sierra cosworth race car, good for over 500bhp on track so should do me!

Finally sorted the phantom and had a bit of a break and have started to get back on with the bug again!
Last couple of nights I've been mocking up an exhaust bracket which holds a stainless muffler across the back of the engine...

Good to see you are gack on to the Subaru VW project after the kit car 'diversion'. As you mentioned it was for sale, I just had a look at the pictures of finishing the Phantom off on your site (not looked for months). There can't be many kit cars made made with as much attention to detail. Nice one, you've done an awesome looking job. As always, the difference is in the detail. The interior is especially impressive. Whoever makes Phanton's ought to buy it back as a demonstrator! That lycra suede stuff looks impressive. I struggled to find something to stretch around some custom door panels for my Beetle years ago. Then getting to all to stick down before the contact adhesive has cured was near impossible. I have a vacuum pump now, so if I ever do any more, it'll be interesting to have a go at vacuum bagging to clamp the cloth evenly onto the panel.
Back onto VWKD topics, you've done a very neat job of shoe horning the quad cam engine into externally standard beetle bodywork. to get that much ground clearance I thought you must have moved the transaxle up in the chassis, but you don't appear to have done in the pics.

lol, I am easily diverted when it comes to new projects, I get sucked in too easily!
Cheers for comments on the phantom, my aim was always to make it look like a low volume production car rather than a kit car, I guess I've succeeded!. The lycra suede was from ebay, worked out really nice to use, only problem is I should have used brushed glue rather than spray on contact adhesive as adhesion isn't great months down the line, probably doesn't help being a black/black car with all the heat it gets inside in this hot weather.. From your words it sounds like you were trying to use contact adhesive when it is wet?! The longer you leave it to tack off dry the better bond you get, doesn't work very well wet unless the materials are porous so the adhesive can dry off in place

All I've done with the bug trans is move it forwards, not up at all, probably more to do with German Look not being slammed to the ground to get good ride quality and handling at the same time, I'll probably lower it an inch or two from where it is in later pics now, but I'll wait until the conversion is at full weight before doing so..

I didn't go looking for it, a mate offered it to me. They don't come along at such low mileages often and as the body is coming off the pan for rust repairs now I thought it would be rude not to Grin
