Hi there,
I've got some great news.
Today i had a apointment with a bloke who has "splitty's" for sale.
I met him before and he told me then that he had something commin for me.
It's clear to me now that he imports them from brazil.
I don't mind a Brazilian "split", as long as its a good one.
Well this might be the one for me.
It was dreadful weather (pooring rain, so no pics) but i got down on my knees to see a almost perfect chassis with the original paint still on it.
Perfect sills, beams, floorpan you name it.
Rust, yes but not in the manner that i'm used to see.
The body is pretty beaten in some places but also solid.
What could go wrong.
BTW, these pics were taken in Brazil before shipment, so no rain
A made an agreament that before buying i could let her be checked out by a VW specialist in the Netherlands.
If it's a solid base for restoring i'll buy.
This specialist then takes care of restoring her in a condition we want, that will take place in Tsjechië where they have bought a company that does that in the oldfashioned way (the better way) and with great craftmanship.
To make things even better for me, the bloke who sells these busses would like to be introduced with the VW specialist.
So, i made him a deal, i introduce him and he sells me one for a nice price :smt040 !
He agreed to this!
So at last things are going my way
I'll keep you posted, in the mean time keep your fingers crossed for me.
It'll be apreciated
Regards,

I'm not really up on all the buses but have seen brazilian splits a fair bit cheaper than regular ones.. What is the difference?

Hi there,
After some serious hickups early this week, i bought the bus.
It's a 1969 15 window T2 t1 from Brazil.
I don't have the pics to support the first checkup but this is a serious solid car.
Wheelarches, floors front and rear are solid.
The right sill is gone, some small beams on the chassis and 2 jackposts, these are not rotten but seriously bent out of shape.
One of the side doors frame is broken so that the low part of it is moving freely opposite the topside.
Under some of the 15 windows there is corrosion, and on the reartopcorners there are a few holes.
The frontbeam looks solid but it has a few places that could rot through in the coming years.
Even though the rear floor is solid, it wil be changed for new parts just for the looks of it, it's bruised and dented all over the place.
And with the floor out of my way i can inspect the chassis much better and prepare it for another 38 years of life.
At this moment the bus is at http://www.hotrod.nl/ in Doesburg, they are the VW-specialist i talked about before.
They agreed with me that this is a very solid bus, they hadn't seen one like this in a very long time.
I paid 6 G's (in euro's that is) for this bus, lookin at the quality that is not to much money.
Hotrod has seen far worse busses that where much more expensive.
Tomorrow i have a chat with a bloke who lives nearby, he has some space for me in his barn and lots of tools!
So, this bus will keep me busy for the next 2 years i supose. :smt040
I'll keep you posted.
Regards,
