Apologies for the numptiness of the following but I'm still new here
Topic of discussion 3.3 svx engine
1) Does the RJES bellhousing fit on this?
2) How hard is it to get hold of a loom and fuel pump relay or are they common to other engines too?
3) Does anyone make the mounting brackets or is it a case of modifying the RJES ones for the EL20?
4) Is huggy gonna hate me for turning a morning's work conversion into an epic struggle??
Cheers in advance |

I'm sure it does

Expensive to buy and rare as rocking 'orse poo.
I'm running a Jag pump on my EJ20. Cost £15 in a breaker
3) Does anyone make the mounting brackets or is it a case of modifying the RJES ones for the EL20?
No, *you* make the brackets I used 50x25 mm box and 3mm plate.

You watching the EG33 SVX engine on eBay too? It looks rough for a supposed 70,00 mile engine to me, but it's only 40 minutes drive away from me, so I was tempted to go and have a look, as it's rather topical at the moment for me. I won't be buying it though.
What are you thinking of fitting it to? Are you wawrt they are too high to fit under the engine hatch in a T25 and too long to clear the bulkhead on anything except a T25, unless you start moving things around.

1) Does the RJES bellhousing fit on this? Yes. All SVX's were auto, so you'll need to add a flywheel and clutch from a Legacy or Impreza. You may also want to use a turbo clutch and bell housing on an EG33
2) How hard is it to get hold of a loom and fuel pump relay or are they common to other engines too? The relay is common to all, but the loom is not - it's unique to the EG33 engine.
3) Does anyone make the mounting brackets or is it a case of modifying the RJES ones for the EL20? I'm investigating this at the moment for a guy in Montreal. I've never had an EG33 engine, but it's looking very likely that the EJ series mount will fit with no modifications. I'll probably know within a couple of days.
4) Is huggy gonna hate me for turning a morning's work conversion into an epic struggle?? _________________ Regards,

Thanks for the info - Yeh I'm watching it dude... for the T25... but really I want a dump valve noise with my 230 BHP cos I'm a Essex boy underneath all the hair and patchouli so its 2.0t really
The budget's not really there yet... it kinda is but would make december a bit of a struggle moenywise... so probably not for me either if I've got my sensible head on tomorrow... Mr Dorson was sniffing round it and don't have the cash either, seems everyone wants but not this side of Xmas |

If anyone is still interested I spoke to the ownwer of the SVX engine and the guy whose workshop it is sat in. Despite the ad saying that they don't have the chassis harness, they do apparently have all the connectors from it. If so building the harness would be possible (but a big job). _________________ Regards,

|
|
Regarding wether the EG33 engine (SVX) will fit in a vanagon, I have never tried fitting one myself, but I am 90% sure that they do not fit under the stock engine hatch in a 2WD without lowering the engine in the chassis slightly. Apparently 25 mm is just about enough. I mailed a friend in the US who fitted one recently, and he confirned this. Check Vanaru's site. It shows an EG33 fitted with the smallcar kit. It's no coincidence that the photo also shows a Syncro engine mount crossmember - that's the easiest way to drop the engine down (the engine is lower in a Syncro to fit the propshaft under the floor).
Also check the pictures of bitchinbob's EG33 install in Kool Rides on here. Note the angle of his engine. Despite not having a hatch to fit the engine under (it's a crew cab), he appears to have pivoted the engine around the front mount by about 10 degrees, dropping it down at the back. I PM'd him asking for more info, but haven't got a reply yet. I guess it was done to fit the throttle bodies and the plenum which joins them together in? _________________ Regards,
