thanks rich

we have spoken before but i wouldnt say you know me

I always have a nose up your drive when i pass to see how things are progressing.

The scoob project will be a while off yet, need to finish the alfa wizard one first, but will hopefully be picking up a 1302s chassis next week and will start gathering parts. I know of a couple of legacies in breakers yards so the engine wont be far off too. I will be looking for a bus box and then will probably approach you regarding the bellhousing nearer the time

speak then

I may be able to help with fitting the bus box into a Beetle chassis if your project is a way off too. I have a plan for some new products to make this considerably easier, but it's about number 6 on my to do list at the moment - maybe 6 months away.
Hope you're not thinking of the EJ22 Legacy in at AVR in Chesterton? - if so it'll need at least coil pack and ignition module, as I bought them (and the induction pipe) last week!
If you happen to have any spare Beetle IRS rear trailing arms, my mate is after some. Cheers,

That sounds an ideal job for sourcing parts! I may well end up looking for low milage engines soon, and if you could source them locally I'd be interested in ocming up with some sort of a deal. I can't think of the amount of times I've visited breakers only to find the car they've got isn't what they said it was, etc, and norrowly missed out on an engine I am after at Car Transplants the other week. Very annoying!
I saw your Wizard on some forum or other the other day, and it's one of those full GRP bodied ones. It looks pretty good. There can't be too many of those around!

I think I've sussed out why I thought I knew you from somewhere - You're the guy who's married to Angela (who used to go out with my mate Tony many years ago), arent you?
As you work in waste for Staffs CC, then it would be a very small world indeed if you know Charlotte Appleby (she has, or maybe used to have, a similar sounding job, and also used to get to loads of scrap yards), as she's married to Lee, another mate of mine and Tony's!

Hi am doing wrx converstion too. I am getting the chassis sorted but have not bought the box or engine yet. What is the best engine to use(sohc dohc etc) Also I am probably going to use bus 091 box(is this longer than standard irs bug box? The most important thing is that it looks standard from outside. Thanks guys

The 091 bus box ix bot longer, but it is wider that a Beetle IRS box, and the shift rod is higher up on the nose cone. Also, the bus boxes do not have a means of bolting rubber mounts to the bottom of the bell housing, to join to the frame forks in a beetle (buses don't have frame forks).

All WRX engines are DOHC. The only turbo engine's which were SOHC were used in Foresters in about 2001, I believe. I've never had a look at one. I believe they were about 170 bhp, which does not really warrant the effort of fitting one, as the 2000 --> EJ25's are 165 bhp without a turbo.

Hope this helps...

Thanks, what would be the ideal engine (single turbo) to put in my bug? I'm still trying to trawl through the pages of salvage yards and there seem to be so many variations!!

The ideal engine is probably the one which you can find which is the best value for money! There is a massive amount of single turbo variants, the differences between most of which are small. The best bet is to decide how much power you are after and what your budget is, then you will have already narrowed down the choices....
Sorry I can't be much more specific than that!
