ok, is ya standard 66 bug torsion bar set up ok for a converstion, coz everyone seems to go irs, now i can see the obvious benifits of this as far as handeling gos but i cant see any major problems with keepin my stock suspension,??
my other question is my stock axles, are these gunna twist in 5 mins?
i dont intend to race this bug, i dont intend to be pullin away like a mad man all the time...so surely i dont need uprated everything to race spec! if ya no what i mean
can anyone with prev experiance tell me realisticaly how long a 1300 bug g.box will last straped to the end off 200bhp?
another question i have is, can you front mount a rad in the spare wheel well and not have to cut triangles out ya bonnet to keep it cool? can you buy a vented pre 67 f.valance any ideas?
all help apretiated

a stock 1200 box lasted me 6 months in my daily driver speedster replica, in the end 3rd gear disappeared! The main advantage to IRS during the conversion is being able to move the trans forwards and get the engine under stock external bodywork...

thanks for the link, this is what i thought about doin, just venting the front apron, but i was unsure if there would be enuff air flow !? as there isnt much of the front apron on show
and another question, can you move the gear box forwards by doin the reverse trans cradel if ya runin a swing axle set up? or is this only possible with irs?

Without moving the trans and if you use a quad cam engine the cam covers stick through the rear wings. Most cars done by TSR and the DC customs car area like this so have a gander on their websites...
You have to have IRS to move the trans or you would have serious toe out on the rear wheels!

| cheers ric, have had a ganda at there sites, i was a little worryed bout how far it stuck out the back as i saw some pics of "the dark side" and the motor on that seems to proper hang out the arse of the car,but the other conversions ive now seen that are all paneld up with a quad cam in only have the two small triangles out the rear wings which i think i can live with |
