right, i thing the problem is with the selector as trying with and without part 6 on the shifter wasnt working, i could only get one gear but i was still uncertain what that was, with the wheels turning in a fwd motion, the input shaft was turning clockwise
anyway, i started the day like this
and finished like this
I need a new gasket for the nose cone, and i will be trying to suss it all out maybe tomorrow. I must say this weekend has been quite dis-heartening
but on a lighter note my wife has given me her grandads genuine WWII munitions box to use in the car. It will need paint stripping back and repainting but its so cool
Gerrelt, just a question for you. When you fitted the adaptor to your alfa engine, did you loctite the nuts onto the studs? I am using flanged nuts to spread the load a bit, but am considering changing to M10 nylock nuts with washers and locktite them in place _________________ "Doc I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of home"

No, I didn't use locktite. I figure that the Engines are normally bolted to the gearbox without it, so there is no reason to bolt it to the adapter plate with it.
Ohw, I used liquid gasket instead of the paper gasket when I changed my gearbox nosecone. I've driven about 100 kilometers with it now, and it doesn't leak...yet...
Other people used it too, and they said it worked (but don't blame me when you have to pull the gearbox again because of a running nose(cone))... _________________ homepage

right...sorted it all out now
it appears that i might have not ensured the box was in neutral when i originally installed the nose cone...but we'll never know now
its all back together and working fine....so engine will be back in by weds, and it can be dropped off the jacks and stands and wheeled out of the garage to start the other jobs
im happier now _________________ "Doc I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of home"

did a little more today, and now the car is finally off the jacks.
i also started trial fitting some of the other panels up, like the rear wings
just need to get a new cam cover and then grind off the old mounting points for it so they dont jut out. will need to do a little more sculpting with the notches in the wings, and then with the engine lid. Will also need to fill that bloody horrible hole in the lid too

i thought is was riding a little high after i dropped it off the jack...then later realised i had trapped my orbital sander underneath.....so removed this and it dropped a poo load more
anyway, took a few pics of it again..so here goes. I will trial fit the front wings later this week and refit the bonnet..which will need the hinges tweaking to work properly.
here goes

sander was fine...but i think a little more clearencing on the inner body mounts will be required, its might close...or i may need thicker spacers
it has actually settled a bit more over night...so that housebrick wont fit under the lower manifold now. I need to play aroundwith the exhauts positioning too as its currently pointing the wrong way!!! _________________ "Doc I can't stop singing The Green, Green Grass of home"
