well, the main thread is on Vzi but today for the 1st time in 12 months the car has an engine in

and here it is all 1.7 16v of it. Still need a bit of tweaking (longer bolt for engine mount required but all is progressing well for now

here are a few pics

more updates as they go on....now the engine is in, and the brakes, suspension are done, tim eto finish the bodywork, sort the wiring, whack on the carbs and interior (after spraying of course) and then whack on my monster rear wing.....oh and theres the little matter of cooling

The 16V is not much wider that the 8V engine, I see. Only at the distribution side it is higher.

Are you going to use the power steering bracket for something?

great conversion mate. which alfa did the engine come out of?
ive got an alfa 145 boxer sat around my workshop that i bought to fit the engine into my camper. how did you fit it? what gearbox etc?
i was about to sack the car off in favour of a porsche lunp or scooby but ive got a soft spot for the alfa. it has sat for the last nine months, i chucked a battery on it, and its started first time the other day so its muscled its way back into contention for the engine of choice

its the 1.7 quad cam 16v lump from a 33 sportwagon

didnt cost me much and picked up the adaptor plate and input shaft for under 50 nicker

Cost me £60 to have the release bearing extension made.

I junked the FI system in favour of twin 40 dells, and got the new manifolds shipped in from greece.

gearbox is standard bug with the extended input shaft fitted. This retains the alfa clutch and started motor. I uprate all the gearbox mounts and cradle with a bolt up trapeze bar to take the extra strain. I may eventually uprate the box to a 1500 or 1600 box, dunno yet. Also will have a play with the carbs to get more power, but the car is so light anyway

Car is a full fibreglass wizard roadster with steel bonnet. 1 or 2 inch oversize front wings, 4 inch rears, dropped CB spindles and adjustable front beam, 2 spline rear drop with discs all round. Refurbed chassis, and a jag leather interior to go in. Berg shifter with uprated linkages, porsche 944 gauges to go in. Boxster s style 17's too

Should shift when its all together. I am just concerned about the weight of the engine and lifting the front end up.

I will pop up more pics soon.

cant wait to drive it but i have has to take the engine out again due to stripping the thread in the adaptor plate so will need to get this resolved with helicoils....might have the others done while i'm at it too to be safe

Not sure about those rear wing plans... but, hey, it's your car!! Happy Happy

What do you mean with "full fiberglas body"? Is the entire body out of fiberglass? That's cool! Light and no rust issues.

The Porsche rims look very good on it!!

havent got a choice with the wings, its the only option as the cam cover sticks up too far...even allowing for wot you did on your website

this is least of my problems at the mo

after sorting all the issues with teh input sharft etc, and originally putting the gearbox in the car (after changing the nose cone for the right mount) i have come to install my berg shifter tonight and something just isnt right

i havent had the opportunity before tonight to test if the gearbox engages properly...now i'm glad the issue with the stripped thread has cropped up

it appears i cant get the box to engage anything other than what appears to be reverse gear...and that might even be 2nd. even with adjustments at the shifter end i cant seem to get it to engage anywhere

I have ensured the grub screw at the rear linkage is fully in to join the two pieces of shift rod...but to no avail

I am now thinking that

A - the box is shagged
B - i have done something wrong when changing the nose cone (but i cant imagine what

or C - i have damage the box when changing the input shaft.

Is there any advice anyone can give me on how to check

I have recently secured the box with trapeze bar, new mounts and rear and intermediate box supports so you can imagine i am a little peeved.

maybe i should have checked this before but can anyone offer any advice

obviously i currently have no clutch or cable etc in, but this shouldnt really make a differece

i'm ready to pull my fucking hair out at the mo, but i am glad the engine isnt in at the moment

heeeeelp

am i going to have to change the box,,,and go through the input shaft problems again??
