Tonight my friend and I finished off the fitting of the water pipes reservoir tank and intercooler refitted the exhaust and then tidied up the electrics.

we then took her for a little drive round the local lanes to check her water levels and came back.

She had an air lock in her after the first run which sorted it self out, but I've noticed a pin hole on the one pipe which fits onto the radiator, so bugger I've got to get her taken off and replaced this weekend.

She's nearly there just a few teething issues really.

The turbo diesel is a whole lot quieter to drive than the knackered old rough 1.9 I had in there before and the performance is silly! I keep going to grab fifth as I'm so used to my 135Bhp transit with its 6 speed gearbox and this is quicker than that upto 60, it flies!

Now I've got that sorted I shall be getting down and tidying up more and more of the holes that keep appearing on the poor old thing. She'd beat everyone elses bus for being the rustiest on here.

the differences between the turbo and non turbo XUD engines are amazing, I now wish I had bought a turbo diesel in the first place.

The main thing is the Turbo together with the lower compression ratio used make the engine a much quiter and smoother thing to drive, the turbo lag is always going to be there but hey who cares once the turbo starts pushing its gone

All I've got to do now is wander off to Midland wheel supplies and see which wheels I can get to fit under the arches of me wagon!

I'd like a set of 16"s I reckon then I can use high profiles to start with but once I change the gearbox I can then put lower profiles on.

BUGGER BUGGER BUGGER

Was just driving the bus down from my workshop tonight to give her a wash and a tidy before the MOT tomorrow and I was pootling along and dropped her into fourth and all of a sudden no power, engine sounded like a dog so cut her off and jumped out and had a look.

I whipped the top left hand Cam cover off and the timing belt was all over the place so I knew something had gone wrong (new cambelt was fitted)

Got her towed back to my workshop and whipped everything else off and the cam belt tensioner had come loose and had bent and dropped off its pivot. I said a few nasty words and whipped everything else off another spare engine put new tensioner which BTW has a much larger foot to go against the tension spring and put it all back together turned it over a few times by hand, it felt like there were still 4 compressions in there so fired her up and the jobs a good un. finished putting it all back together and drove her home!

I was so lucky, my old man said go out and buy a lottery ticket with that luck.

You lucky lucky £$"$%£$

At least you had the foresight to pullover check stuff and get towed home rather than keep turning it over and knackering the engine

Hello Eeeek very lucky , once you get the hang of it that turbo lump there should be no lag Grin just watch out for the turbo kicking in on wet roundabouts in third gear Grin
