Clutch choices on my bay

I have a 72 bay with an ej22. Its fitted with a Kenedy plate and stage 2 clutch. I find this a bit heavy. Would a stage 1 or stock kennedy be up to the job? Or even a stock German and sweedish 9inch clutch and pressure plate?

I know the best answer is porbably to change to hydraulic.......

You could also try lengthening the clutch arm on the gearbox, apparently the KEP clutches require less travel so that would be an easy fix. I've seen a few people have done this on the aussie forum and I plan to do it on my bug. You could also try looking on other boxes as they do come in various lengths.

Interesting idea. You are the seccond person to suggest that in 24hrs. Until this morning I didnt know the clutch arms came in different sizes. Any idea which boxes had which length arms? Do the arms bolt on, ie could I change one with the box in situ or are they part of the cross shaft?

They are splined and slide onto the end of the cross shaft so just a bit fidly to fit with that spring, should be able to do it without removing much for access though.

People have spoken about it on the aussie forum, the guy with the bay and really long thread doing a WRX swap (surf n swoosh) lengthened his stock one, some pics on his thread, I think some people also mentioned what years were longer..
