well time is drawing closer to installing the engine swap and i have had a bit of a brainwave and would appreciate some input on this. i have a 2.1td from a citroen/pug and i have been thinking instead of using an adaptor plate to connect the vw gearbox to this engine i would use the standard citroen gearbox, i can relocate the fuel tankand put the engine far enough forwards that it should work. i have seen this type of thing done with bugs but never a bus. so any thoughts or am i just making more work for summit that just aint gonna fit?

I've been thinking of the same idea, and of course it will work. You just need a little more time in the garage!
Besides that, if you use a complete drive train you'll get rear discs too.
Go for it!!! |

great idea. it has been done before with a subaru turbo in a bus. ill see if i can find a link to it. you will loose some inside space but you can just make a permanent bed. with the diesel its obviously going to important to maintian the gearbox ratios and what better way than to keep the OG box.

I was thinking of making a similar thing as splittyman69 did with his beetle, but I found out that he already made it with a split too. I couldn't fin the pictures though. Put the complete drive train into the back from a front wheel driven car.
But a mid-engine Subaru, that's awesome!

im not entirely sure what you mean by entire drive train but if you mean the front sub frame/suspension then that cant really be done since the Citroen has hydrolic suspension

Skip the suspension, use the one on the bus. But if you use the engine, gearbox and axles (AKA drivetrain) and fit in the bus you will have a great setup.
Ask splittyman69 here at the forum. As I wrote earlier he has already done it in his split bus with hardware from a front wheel driven Volvo.

theres a local shop round here that can make up custom drive shafts so i can easily use the vw rear hubs and get some shafts made to fit from the vw hubs into the citroen outputs

I've thought about this a few times, would the gearlinkage be fairly straightforward to set up? would be stunning to have a nice 5 speed box to match the engine!

I've been planning on doing the very same conversion on the Covin. I've looked into what's involved and I can't see any real problems to be honest.
I've also thought about doing it to the Bus as well. I'd say go for it m8 as it will be well worth the effort _________________ DARREN
