if u mean my input shaft wouldnt be long enoegh then ur wrong as its suported in the gearbox by the added 15mm(same as the adaptor thinckness ) and sits in the engine crank spigit bearning, which then centrels in the input shaft which sits into the needle bearing of the back of the crack(e.9 as the adaptorplate is 15mm the input is 15mm ) so why are you saying it wont work? when i know it dose and is working 100 percent ,if it wasnt long eneogh then it would shake the gearbox to bits ,and i wouldnt be able to give it any hammer??
doing a vw tdi conversion u dont have to extend the input shaft as for a ford u do unless you use a the other flywhhel ?

Yeah .. Good point "ricola".
I've never looked at doing DIY adaptor before so it's hard to visualise the job in question... In theory it sounded possible but obviously it's not.
Think I'll have to have a rumage about in the workshop as I've got a spare box and CVH engine and I'll be able to get a better idea of what's involved. It's always easier to understand when you can see the job.

Has anyone got a picture of modified/extended input shaft ? ? ?

Covin, I have an longer input shaft included in the ford adapter kit that I got recently. I can take some pictures of the kit if required.

The input shaft its not a modified extended one though its in one piece.

Let me know if you want some.

Hi steamo . . . Wouldn't mind seeing a picture of that.
Your Ford Engine is a Diesel isn't it ?
My 1.8 CVH dosn't need any input shaft mods, I'm sure there's just the adaptorplate and a bronze ring that sits on thrust bearing to make up the adaptorplate thickness. My RS Turbo engine adaptorplate is the same ? ? ? ? Both kits were from GBE Hmmm . . . Whats going on there ?
Is the Diesel that much different or is there another way to do this ?
Think I need a brain transplant....lol

yes did use the vauxhall starter and the clearance was 15mm ,thinkness of the adaptorplate(hi the ford convsion has a longer inputshaft then standerd and some have a machined spacer as well (but if u fancy bin crafty use the ohc ford flywheel as it sits outwards more then the cvh flywheel Grin

i made the one for my escort 1.8 diesel very easy with a bit of head scratching. i used the thin steel shim between the engine and escort gearbox as a template. i got a length of flat steel bar 35mmm wide and 8mm thick and bent it to the shape . welded extra lumps of steel where the bolts go on the engine side and cut new threads. i then welded a flat sheet on the gearbox side and plasma cut to fot the bellhousing exactly and drilled to fit the vw 1600 box. i extended the release bearing by 30mm and made a spigott bearing from the old vw petrol flywheel nut. i used a 1600 t2 clutch plate with escort cover all fitted first time. go on give it a go. nobby.

Yes mine was used to fit an 1800 Diesel and its defiately be used.. The guy said that it would fit all ford engines, petrol and diesel (except cossie and transit diesels). He also said it was definately from GBE. I'll get some photos of the kit (plate, bearing spacer and input shaft) tonight so you can compare.
