ok that sounds good.

I shall go with stock suspension and brakes, with the standard 1600cc AC gearbox, as it appears to be fine and in good working condition.

I like the idea of changing as few things as possible!

will also try out a few different ideas for the Radiators - i am thinking two mini radiators as well as a heater matrix in the cabin area.

Now for the hunt for a good 1800 Diesel engine & ancillaries.

Regards
Gareth

I would try and pick up a whole car if I were you.. I got my Escort TD for £150 with a few months Tax and MOT and a Sierra TD for £50 !!

It's nice to try before you buy and you get all the ancilleries that way too. I've also found the engine mounts from Sierra's and P100 to be ideal for making a simple craddle to hold engine in place..see my pics in link in my signature

Never ending questions....

What year of car is best to go for? I obviously dont want to get into ECU's etc. So needs to be one of the basic simple cars....

am guessing around P-reg is the newest?

also are all the 1800s the same, ie fiesta, escort and mondeo??

I think Mondeos are only TD's and have ecu's... The escort I bought was a '94 (L) and has a ECU yet the TD Sierra '91(J) did not have ecu and looks a simple job to put in reckon I could just use the wires from the standard Diesel !
The diesel I had in the bus originally was from a '90 escort am pretty sure the standard diesel engines are pretty much the same between fiesta and escort between '90 and '98 the later Endura engine was used from 1995 but is pretty much the same as far as I'm aware except a little light. Click Here for descritption of Endura

ok,

i shall be having a look properly towards the end of january as I would like to get the van MOT'd first - that way I know if its all roadworthy and also dont have the MOT hassles once the conversions done! easier for test driving etc.

At the mo i have issues with my Xsara HDI, if your bored take a look at my post on the PUG part of the site.

Somedays I hate cars....!

I might be wide of the mark, but from wikipedia it looks like the 1.8 TDCI engine fitted in the focus and c-max is the same block as the endura? Anyone know if it shares the same bolt pattern? 114bhp is pretty impressive.

hi mate , just reading all about your plans. i converted mine using a 1.8d from a van it had bosch fuel pump which you can wind out to give a bit more power. i even made the adaptor plate, exhaust and release bearing .as for the gearbox 2ltr is far better for cruising and i was returning an average 50 mpg . the cooling was fine i used a rad from an escort diesel van with an air scoup and fan on top all mounted under the floor. i used all last summer ran fine even though the rad is pulling in hot air from the tarmac . a worthwile conversion. sadly i had to sell the van but have now got a new one to play with. check out my pages: my conversion to diesel........ good luck nobby_7
