After raising the rear and replacing the shock absorbers and torsion bars, the cv joints started making noises.......... So I ordered new ones. Porsche 9214/944 ones. they fit direct, but are bigger indeed. So higher angle.
for now it looks like I am satisfied though. Maybe drop the rear of the van about 3 cm.
the new suspension and the heavier torsion bars are fantastic though! before the bus felt like it would tip over in every corner, but now it really is steady as a rock. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

for now it looks like looks like these lightweight wheelchairs are amazing and I am satisfied though. Maybe drop the rear of the van about 3 cm.

Does the higher angle not mess up anything else down there by the way?

I did quite a lot lately. I moved the heater core to a place under the bellypan, together with the fan.
white is heatercore, black is the fan.
and the two hoses running to it
yeah, I had to cut open the bellypan. Just a single cut though, so can be undone when needed, with just a small weld. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

So, its been a while. But I have another camper. With two kids the baywindow seemed to get a bit small. So I bought an VW LT camper. Which had been sitting for over 25 years but after a few months of working on it, it looks like this:
And I also got a lift for cars!!! fcuk I should have had that when I did the engine swap.
I wasn't working on it, the baywindow works just fine at the moment but since it was up in the air I took some pictures.
We use it for days out at the moment. Just when shopping in the weekend for example. The kids love it. And it makes every drive a bit more happy:-). _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

I know nobody is reading anymore. BUt just wanted to let you know that my 1.9tdi with flipped gearbox made way for a 2.0 liter subary with RJES bellhousing on a 5 speed t25 gearbox.
for a year already. :-) _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

I think it felt way too heavy. A heavy diesel behind the rear axle just never got the weight distribution right.
also the bus just didn't have that careless vibe about it anymore.
It was a brilliant highway cruiser, but less at home on the small roads we like to take on holidays.
I was offered a subaru for free, and thought lets try this. Mated the subaru to a t25 5 speed gearbox, using RJES stuff.
and the feeling has completely changed for me. It's again the lightfooted vehicle I always loved. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

yeah, I sold the TDI complete with loom, gearbox, adapter plate and everyting.
I think, if I would start all over again with engine swaps, I would maybe again choose TID but than in a 'normal' configuration, which would end up with the engine unter the rear seats.
I think it would only be a little extra work, the engine would be between the axles.
current engine room would than become additional storage room. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |
