A spare throttle cable, is an essential emergency spare, for all rear-engined VWs, which should ideally be kept in the vehicle at all times, especially when touring overseas. Obtaining a spare at short notice, from North America or Sweden, would be almost impossible, resulting in one's vehicle being immobilised for at least several days (or weeks, dependent upon availability!), in the event of cable breakage.
On all but lowered 1968~79 VW Type 2s (under which, it is more difficult to crawl, without being jacked up), replacing a broken a throttle cable, is a quick and easy job (provided one has a spare, readily to hand), which will enable one to continue one's journey, within a half-hour or so.

After supposedly being No Longer Available, for sometime, I recently found them relisted, on the Californian, Bus Boys Inc. website, priced at US$17·95 (approximately £11·50, at recent exchange rates; plus trans-Atlantic postage & packing), which is about three times more expensive, than the throttle cable for vehicles with manual transmission. _________________ Nigel A.
