| actually, on the mTDI thing, how is the VNT actuated if you turf out the loom and go with the mechanical pump? Do you also have to switch in a wastegate turbo? |

Yeah I think you're right.
The electronic wizardry might be a help rather than a hindarence with all the diagnostic capability.
I've the COMPLETE loom still attached. I'll post a pic later. |

wow, the whole loom!! You can seriously simplify it.
this is all that's left on mine and that's with the throttle potentiometer in the engine bay too.

do you have a wiring diagram for the Passat it came from Dan? If you don't I can get it for you from Autodata. Once you have it and you've figured out how to read it, you'll see that a lot of stuff can be trimmed away and you'll be left with only a few lives and a few earths needed to make the loom "standalone". Then a few outputs to the temp gauge etc and that's it. I use the oil pressure light and alternator wiring from the van and I completely turfed out the glow plug system from the loom. It's not needed, the TDIs start really easily.
have you had the ECU de-immobilised? That'll help to simplify the loom. And stripping the stiff rubber trunking off the Passat loom (big job!!) will make it easier to wrap the thinned-down loom up and hide it somewhere in the van. |

No Trev. The huge thick rubberIsed loom is still intact.
I'm actually tempted to keep the immobiliser.
If you have a wiring diagram. That be great though.

what year was the Passat? AFN right? I'll get the diagram as soon as I know.
why keep the immobiliser? As a security measure? Are you going to use the Passat ignition barrel up in the cabin? I think removing it will save you literally DOZENS of wires and if you need an additional security system, fit a hidden kill switch somewhere. You can cut voltage to the ECU or the solenoid on the pump or your choice of other wires that would immobilise the van. |

Yup. 1997. Afn.
What kinda dough to get an Ecu de-immobilised ?
or is it a simple matter of de-soldering something within Ecu. |

de-immobilizing the ECU is a specialist exercise as far as I can see, the dude doing it needs special software, leads etc to link his laptop into a particular chip on the board and make some changes to the program on the chip. That's my tin-pot understanding of it anyway. I don't know what it would cost, mine was done as payment for some parts I sold to Padraic at CustomVolks in KK. There's probably some whizz-kid up your side of the country doing it. Ask around locally or put the question on autostadt.ie
I'll get that diagram |

is yours early or late? I.e. is the MAP sensor inside the ECU or on the boost pipe?
**EDIT**
I see the MAP sensor on the pipe in the photo above. I have the wiring diagram saved as a PDF, PM me your email and I'll send it to you that way. |
