hi y'all
i have an electrical problem - my engine refuses to start
i recently replaced my crankshaft sensor on my ej20 n/a engine
it was stuck solid - destroyed the old ones getting it out!
anyhow - now the car will not start !
i am not getting a spark - presumably the ecu is not getting a signal from the crankshaft sensor - at the ignitor both yellow feed wires from the ecu are grounded for some reason when they should be live?
why is this ?
is it because the ecu is still not getting a signal from the crankshaft sensor?
or for some other reason?
any pointers / suggestions would be helpful |

Have you got the diagnostics feature? The two green plugs and two black plugs? _________________ Think......

sorry no diagnostic sockets
i am at a loss . . .
would the lack of signal from the crankshaft sensor to the ecu cause the ignitor to earth the yellow feed wires?
have i fried the ecu?
or maybe an earth problem? |

If you were to sort out the diagnostics connections. You could interrogate the ecu and find out what the problem is.
At a guess there is a problem with the new crank shaft position sensor the ecu isn't happy about preventing the igniter from sparking.
You may find, when the ecu is in a state that it has no crank shaft position signal it does infact earth both your igniter feed wires to prevent the engine from starting. I'm not that clued up on it I'm afraid. I do know that if there is no crank signal the engine will not start as its a procedure used to prime the oil system after oil changes.
Get your diagnostics sorted. You only have to join 3 wires together. _________________ Think......

thank you for all your help so far
managed to reconnect the diagnostic socket (obd1)
tried to connect obd2 scanner with an adaptor - ob1 to obd2 - not working
reconnect the engine management light - guess what?
it was flashing...
reconnect the green test mode together - turned ignition on
engine light flashes - dash -dash- dash-dash-dash - dot-dot-dot
then dash-dash-dot
repeats this - are these the error codes stored in the ecu or do i have to connect the black ones aswell if i can find them?
at least the fuel pump & various valves work with the test mode connectors
i have traced the wires from the camshaft sensor, back to the ecu and they appear not to be connected to anything - and appear not to have been connect in the past?
sorry to pick everyones brains - maybe i could do with a mobile auto electrician?
any further ideas? |

many thanks for everyone's help
turns out code 53 is immobiliser related - could be antennae ring open circuit ?- just ordered secondhand parts to rectify
i did manage to start the car as a result of the immob problem but only for a few seconds
the problem was a green plug near the ecu which had multiple internal connectors - for some reason i took it apart thinking the connections were not going anywhere - they were of course, making internal connections - once i reassembled the plug it fired up straight away, so it was my own fault - Doh!
anyways hopeful things will return to normal after a steep learning curve
thanks for all your help - we got there in the end! |
