Hey guys,
I'm in the middle of putting a ej20 turbo lump into 79'singlecab pickup.
Ive brought it all the hard work done, and it's been done really well. As its going into a pickup there's a few bits I have to adjust and move around but overall the conversions is going ok!
Now there's a few areas that I'm not to sure on so if you can point out anything that would be awesome!!
Reason I mention the catch can, is the conversion came with one which had four ports on it, I presume 1 each to the vent on each head

hi,
Your oil return is a constant flowing oil pipe not a breather. If you stick this into a catch can it will drain your oil sump and fill the catch can up until it overflows.
The turbo oil return pipe I recall goes into the side of the cylinder head of block close to the turbo. Its in close proximity the turbo anyway. but looking at the piture it may already be attached to the engine and need attaching to the turbo oil return outlet.
oh actually your turbo is rotated 90 degrees isnt it. so attach it to the turbo oil return outlet.
that is your crank case breather. either attach it to air intake pipe post MAF ( if you have one) or stick it into a catch can, may as well atach the two cylinder head breathers to what ever you attach the crank case breather too.
Coolant circuit is a personal choice. have you given it much thought as to how you are going to do this? the overflow goes into a burp tank. think the radiator hose port goes into the top of the subaru radiator and bleeds the radiator.I want to say that the lower hose goes back into the turbo but I cant remember.

I have fitted an oil catch can but it is not essential for an engine to run correctly.

Thanks for the reply!
This has a custom sump on it and has a feed from the turbo directly to the sump from what I recall, I can get a photo tonight, so wasn't sure if that pipe would come redundant.

You sure it's not for the dip stick? Seems mental that, to create another oil drain for the turbo when there is s perfectly good enough one available. What do I know.
That's a substantial radiator setup. Looks good. Does it have any bleed points built into it? Air locks are a git when they happen, can easily be fixed with a bleed line. Lol at first I thought that was made out of plastic. I like it though especially that front air scoop. What direction does the air flow through the radiator? _________________ Think......

Nice work. Have you fitted the rad setup yet? It seems quite big, big fans, big pipes etc...

Yes there's a few bleed points built in to the hard pipes on the radiator.
Pretty sure the dipstick is at the front. I'll get in the garage this afternoon and get some more pictures.
I haven't fitted any of it yet,well not permanently just test fitted and seems ok.ive just brought the whole conversion as is ,so I'm working my way through parts that I'm not too sure on. |

Ok so here's a shot of the turbo.
Bottom goes directly to the sump. Top is I believe oil feed and then your left with the two middle coolant lines. Bottom one goes into engine and top one goes over to the header tank.
so am I right in thinking that original oil return can be blanked off? I've seen some setups where they have done that so presume it must be ok!

I am sure the air circulates and airs the tool well. But sometimes it is poorly powered and can cause overheating. |
