Hi guys,

with my newly bought 1984 T25/Vanagon Westfalia with DIY EJ22 swap I am not very happy with the wiring job, that the previous owner did. The wiring job itself is not too bad - some wires are laid out rather messy, but the ECU is positioned directly in the engine compartment - so not very water proof.

So I do think about getting another wiring harness and maybe a complete harness from a later Legacy that had the OBD2 system to connect an OBD2 gauge to. In Germany the OBD2 system on the Legacy models came afaik in 1999.
Would this even be possible to get the engine running with such a later ECU?
(I know that I would need the whole harness/immobilizer/starting switch and key combo - my car has the immobilizer unit already.)

Thanks for your thoughts

You would most probably want the sensors too incase they're a different spec to the old ones which the new ecu may not like. The only real non particularly complex thing might be the idle control valve. You may have to swap the inlet manifold or rewire the plug to suit the old one. Go for it.
