|

Hi all, hope you all had a great Christmas.
I fitted a replacement alternator to my T2 with 1998 EJ20 N/A a few months ago and noticed that the output voltage fluctuated between 14 & 15V. I fitted a new voltmeter and have now discovered that at cruising speed the alternator is actually continuously outputting between 14.9 to 15.2V. I confirmed this by plugging a second voltmeter into the cigarette lighter socket.
Will running the van electrics at a continuous 14.9-15.2V damage the battery or the ECU or anything else? |

It is a bit high indeed.
I would suggest replacing the regulator.
The ECU might not like it, but also light bulbs will fail faster. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

Thanks Wilfred.
I just tried removing the voltage regulator but can't do it without damaging something. I think I may have to replace the complete alternator. Again. Do you have any recommendations as to where I could get a new or used one?
I've seen companies like Chargeelectrical & Motorpartsworld but not sure if I can trust them. I got the last one from platinum-imports but they're not answering my e-mails. |
