|
|
Over the weekend I started stripping back my EJ25 Subaru engine which I am using for my first conversion into my 85 T25.
My plan is to replace all the seals, HG’s, Cam Belt ect ect ect.
Now this being my first foray into a conversion I have a slight concern/question.
When I took the existing cambelt off before I did I lined up the timing marks no problem, however as soon as I took the belt of the right side cam pulley(while looking at it front on) the pulley kind of moved on its own anticlockwise about 30˚.
I continued on and got bot heads off ready for skimming at my local engineers.
However I am now worried/confused as to why is done that and if it is going to be a problem when reinstalling the cambelt?
Looking at both heads the valves are seated nice a flush in the head, not sure if that makes any difference.
Thanks for your help.

Your fine. It's just the cam moving as one of the lobes is at TDC it's just flopping over as the valve springs are pushing the valves closed. When you put the belt back on you'll have to move the cam back round and get it to balance on the tip of the cam lobe again hence why there are cam locking pins/tools available. You've not broke anything. Not yet anyway _________________ Think......

Not sure about SOHC but DOHC you only turn the cam in a certain direction _________________ STI powered 1303 now running
