EJ20 N/A.
Had a problem with fuel delivery today. Battery voltage was at 12.2V. Turned on the ignition but didn't hear the usual noise of the pump priming. Turned the key to start and the engine turned easily but wouldn't fire. After trying a few times with the same result I then connected jumper leads from the car with its engine running. The voltage was now at 13V and the bus started straight away and continued to run normally.
I wasn't brave enough to drive it so put the battery on charge overnight and will try it again tomorrow. Is it possible that 12.2V was too low to operate the fuel pump or might this be an intermittent wiring issue?

Today, with the battery charged and reading 12.5V everything worked fine. The fuel pump primes momentarily when the ignition is switched on, and the engine starts easily when the starter is engaged.
Surely 12.2V isn't too low for the fuel pump relay or the ECU to operate.
Could this just be a sticking fuel relay?
Has anyone had this issue before?
Thanks |

Your battery is dying. Modern technology is very sensitive regarding volts.
If it happens again, charge batter again and see if that works again. Than you know almost sure it is the voltage. _________________ 1973 BayWindow running 1.9 110 bhp TDI with flipped gearbox. |

Yeah try a different battery on it.
Your own Investigations shows points towoards a suspect battery.
If the bus had xenon hid bulbs fitted it would definetly of behaved the same way as in on or off. _________________ Think......

Thanks guys. A new battery it is then. i think I'll order a spare pump relay as well just to be on the safe side, if I can find the right one.
Thanks again. |

It's just s standard type of relay. Nothing special. Just would need a different plug put onto it.

Thanks Kai, I managed to get one on EBay. I wanted an original so it would be easy to replace in an emergency.
It all seems to be working OK at the moment.
Thanks again. |
