... what advice would you give me?
My main concerns are the fues box wiring and the relays. As i look at the loom it looks fairly basic that i just keep everything from the ecu as is, i may be a bit nieve tho!
I would have a RJES loom as Richard did my last one very well but i really would like to say that i did mine!
I have a pin out and the subaru wiring diagram, but i would check the plugs to ecu pin locations first. |

4 plug ECU?
If so loom is very easy.
Start by finding the huge multi plugs with the 10mm nut and bolt holding them together. Begin chopping here. _________________ Think......

Here you go.
That's about 85% of the loom sorted. _________________ Think......

From memory next you need to locate the connectors for;
4 yellow ecu plugs
Mass air flow plug
Oxygen sensor plug
Boost control solinoid/MAP/pressure sensor/ignitor, these where on the right front suspension turret on a triangular metal plate.
The three engine harnes plugs.
Black read memory plugs/green test mode plugs/ yellow obd plug.
Main relay and fuel pump relay.
Tap these up and cut the rest, but remember to keep the plugs for the alternator and the radiator if your going to reuse the subaru fans.
Once everything is cut you'll have to locate a few strays wires from the ecu. Before I foget the oil pressure light will be green and coming out from one of the three engine harness plugs. Also water temperature gauge comes from these three engine harness plugs too.
Speed sensor
Switched live
Back up memory +12v permanent.
Neutral position switch
Rad fan speed slow
Rad fan speed fast
Cold start circuit.
Oil pressure light switch
Water temperature gauge
Engine check light.
Fuel pump
Have you got the correct wiring diagram? More so have you got the subaru specific service manual? If so head to the mfi turbo diagnostic part. These is a picture of the ecu and the locations of all the pins. Use that. It's two pages long and covers everything you will need. I'll link it shortly.
Here, page 17-18.......

My disclaimer...... Follow my guide at your own perral. This guide has come from my memory which has been known to be miss guided and completely forgetful plus I haven't had a coffee yet. As a peice of mind perhaps post the pictures of the connectors your going to cut. However it really is that easy, I've done a though of these now. _________________ Think......

| Thanks that's very good info. I already had the two page pin out info but mine was a poor photocopy blurry scan! Much clearer on your link. When you say about the two plugs with the 10mm bolts, what do you mean. My loom is out and is basically missing the other side of the grey plug (rear of car loom?) |

What i did.
1test the car
2get the loom out the car name or number the sockets And plugs
3test the loom with the engine still in the car. Put it on the windscreen and roof
4 get rid of the obvious stuff like lights and radio stuff
5 do the conversion
6start the engine with the loom and original dash and start cutting away what is not mentioned kays post. If the engine stops or gets irregular then you cut the wrong write
You can do step 6 before step 5 out if you want. But i couldn't wait to drive |

| Unfortunately I don't have that option this time as I did the silly thing of buying the loom and engine as i had an offer too good to pass up on! It will probably cause more headache! |

Ok picture this.
The loom is a whole. Now picture it cut up into three areas. The rear, behind the dashboard and the engine.
The plug with the ten mm bolt is the gateway between the rear and behind the dashboard.
The three similar looking grey plugs is the gateway between behind the dashboard and the engine. ( take caution as two out of the three plugs can incorrectly plug into one another as they're the same number of pins)
That plug with the 10mm. The only item passing through that you require is the fuel pump. So you can chop that plug of entirely. Both ends of it helps. Cut it out entirely. You'll then have a the rear portion gone and then a huge portion of the loom of the dashboard are open circuit. When you cut the plugs you don't need they'll fall out completely.
I know it's daunting first time round but it really is a piece of piss. _________________ Think......

You can cut the main fusebox out too as you won't be needing that either.
Dashboard pod, cut those.
Just rereading,
How mix of the loom have you got?
Have you got the four yellow ecu plugs? _________________ Think......
